We are not stationary, but rather continuously progressing, growing, and accomplishing our God-given purpose. The church of God is united and strong, just like an army, ready to overcome any obstacle, and determined to fulfill its mission. We witness the evidence of Jesus' power and victory, as we see his banners waving in the wind, inspiring us to press on and follow him. We are not retreating, but rather advancing, facing our challenges and fighting for what is right, with the confidence that we are not alone in our struggle. Jesus is going ahead of us, confronting our enemies and defeating them, as we follow him into battle. Jesus is the one who reigns over us, with authority and sovereignty, and we are his servants, ready to obey his commands. The cross is leading the way, guiding us forward towards our destination and our goals. We are carrying with us the symbol of our faith and the sacrifice that Jesus made for us, constantly reminding us of our calling and our hope. We are moving forward with a sense of purpose, with a mission to fulfill, just like soldiers advancing towards battle.

Let us continue advancing as followers of Christ, with courage and determination. The line "One in hope and doctrine/One in charity" reminds us that despite our differences, we are united in the essentials of the faith, and that love is the highest ideal we should all strive for. The final stanza speaks of the church as one body, made up of all Christians, regardless of race, denomination or creed, all belonging to Christ. The second stanza speaks of Christ as the royal master, leading the charge against the enemy, and the church as a mighty army, united in purpose, moving forward courageously.

The line "With the cross of Jesus/Going on before" reminds us that Christ himself is the standard-bearer in this fight, that we are not alone, and that he is leading us ever forward, however difficult the path may be. The Christian life is not an easy one, and the struggle is ongoing. The first two lines of the song "Onward Christian soldiers/Marching as to war" set the tone for the rest of the piece. The song is a call to all Christians to join the fight, to leave behind the distractions and temptations of the world, and follow in the footsteps of Christ. The lyrics of the song "Onward Christian Soldiers" by the Salvation Army Band & Choir, speak of the Christian life as a journey, a march towards a battle, with Jesus himself leading the charge, flag held high.
